Stonesoft to Be Acquired By McAfee

McAfee has plans to purchase Stonesoft which is a company that makes firewalls. The company is based in Helsinki and the entire transaction will probably be worth US$389 million in cash. Both the companies confirmed the news today. The subsidiary of Intel stated that firewalls are in huge demand and that is why they are growing fast in network security. Integration is due to take place between the products if Stonesoft and McAfee and the technology of the former will stand alongside IPS Network Security Platform and Firewall Enterprise products of McAfee.

Stonesoft has around 6500 customers and also manufactures systems to prevent evasion and Secure Sockets Layer VPN software. The company also carries out research regarding advanced evasion techniques, which are the variety of methods that are used by hackers to ensure that their intrusions are not being detected. A pressure situation has developed around companies as well as the Government because of the threats that are posed by hackers who illegally enter networks and steal intellectual property.
